Overview of ICEGATE e-SANCHIT guidelines, headless automation, and single-session queue management

1. Does ICEGATE provide an open public REST API for e-SANCHIT?

No: Indian Customs (ICEGATE/CBIC) does not currently provide a direct public REST API for e-SANCHIT. Access is restricted to authenticated portal sessions utilizing registered IEC and Class-3 Digital Signatures (DSC).

This platform provides an In-House Central Automation Gateway where multiple operators can upload pre-signed PDFs simultaneously. A single headless worker manages the queue and submits to ICEGATE, preventing duplicate login locks and OTP bottlenecks.

2. Key Regulatory Rules & Compliance Specs

  • File Format: Searchable PDF / PDF-A format.
  • File Size Ceiling: ≤ 1.0 MB per document (strictly enforced by ICEGATE).
  • Batch Capacity: Maximum 5 files (5 IRNs) per batch (DRN).
  • Digital Signatures: Embedded Class-3 DSC signature in PDF.
  • Document Type Codes: Commercial Invoice (`380000`), Packing List (`271000`), Bill of Lading (`705000`), etc.
